What is Every 15 Minutes?

In today's fast-paced world, where distractions and temptations abound, it is imperative to equip our youth with the knowledge and awareness needed to make responsible and mature decisions. The "Every 15 Minutes" program stands as a beacon of enlightenment, targeting high school juniors and seniors to encourage thoughtful contemplation about the choices they make, particularly in relation to drinking, driving, personal safety, and their broader impact on society. This two-day initiative goes beyond traditional classroom teachings, immersing participants in a transformative experience that leaves a lasting impression on their hearts and minds.

Day 1: Reality Check and Reflection

As participants step into the world of Every 15 Minutes, they are confronted with a dose of reality that resonates deeply. The program kicks off with a simulated accident scene, complete with emergency responders, sirens blaring, and the emotional intensity of a life-altering situation. This gripping demonstration serves as a poignant reminder of the potential consequences of impaired driving. Students witness firsthand the devastation caused by poor decisions, as well as the rapid response of law enforcement and medical professionals who work tirelessly to save lives.

After the initial impact, participants are taken through a series of thought-provoking workshops and discussions. These sessions delve into personal safety, the physiological effects of alcohol and substance abuse, and the legal ramifications of impaired driving. Interactive activities encourage open dialogue, allowing students to explore the profound impact their choices can have on themselves, their loved ones, and their wider community.

Day 2: Emotional Connection and Empathy

The second day of the program takes participants on an emotional journey, focusing on the aftermath of the simulated accident. A mock memorial service is held, emphasizing the ripple effect of tragedy on family, friends, classmates, and the community at large. Heartfelt testimonials from real-life individuals affected by drunk driving lend a human touch to the experience, underscoring the importance of empathy and responsible decision-making.

Throughout the day, students engage in a unique bond-building exercise. Each participant writes a heartfelt letter to their parents or guardians, expressing their love, gratitude, and commitment to making mature choices. These letters serve as a tangible reminder of the profound connections that define their lives and the responsibilities they hold as young adults.

Impact and Lasting Impressions

The Every 15 Minutes program has proven to be a powerful catalyst for change, leaving an indelible mark on the minds of participants. By blending impactful simulations, candid discussions, and emotional connections, this initiative empowers high school juniors and seniors to think critically about their actions and the potential repercussions. Graduates of the program often emerge as leaders within their schools, advocating for responsible decision-making and raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

The Every 15 Minutes program goes beyond conventional education, fostering a deep-seated understanding of the far-reaching implications of our choices. By engaging high school juniors and seniors in a meaningful and emotionally resonant experience, this two-day program equips them with the tools needed to navigate life's challenges with wisdom and maturity. As we continue to invest in the future of our youth, initiatives like Every 15 Minutes stand as a testament to the power of education, empathy, and responsible decision-making.
